Presentation of UMR1283-8199

Presentation

Our first research unit on the genetics of diabetes was created by Philippe Froguel in Lille in 1995, at the Lille Pasteur Institute (IPL), within the framework of the creation of the inter-disciplinary CNRS Institute of Biology of Lille (IBL). The initial group was created 5 years before in the Center for the Study of Human Polymorphism (CEPH, under Jean Dausset, Nobel prize winner) in Paris 7 university medical campus.

The Lille structure has then evolved into a joint research unit (UMR) of both Lille University and CNRS, while remaining linked to IPL. The UMR entitled "Genomics of Metabolic Diseases" has served as the main pillar for the projects of LabEx "European Genomic Institute for Diabetes Research" (EGID) and EquipEx "Lille Integrated Genomic Advanced Network-Personalized Medicine" (LIGAN-PM) awarded by the Future Innovations Program (PIA) in 2010, and more lately for the “National Center for Precision Medicine for Diabetes” (PreciDIAB) supported by the European Metropolis of Lille, Amiens Métropole, the Hauts-de-France Region, the National Research Agency, and the European Union. The three projects are led by Philippe Froguel.

In the spring of 2017, all staff of the unit have moved from Pasteur campus to the EGID headquarters (new building and adjacent refurbished building), located at the Lille CHU campus. Since the 1st of January 2026, the UMR1283-8199 Multi-omics and Physiopathology of Metabolic Diseases (METAB-OMICS) unit is headed by Amélie Bonnefond (Inserm DR1). The research topics and projects are presented on the ‘Projects’ page.
